Asking for something often carries a negative connotation. It’s a task we’d rather avoid, yet some people seem to do it effortlessly. How do they make it look so easy? The truth is, there’s no simple way to approach asking, but with practice, it becomes less daunting. The whole "ask and you shall be given" verse does work, at least from what I've seen hence my soberthought. But let's get something clear, asking and begging are different.
To ask, according to a Google search, is a simple inquiry where begging is not letting up after getting a no. So, we can inquire about various things, whether it be a simple food recipe or life's complex matters about how to navigate life's continuous struggles. Let's use an analogy of games. I hope you have played a game before.
As with all games, there are rules that govern them, but at the same time, it doesn't stop people from coming up with cheats to the game, which lets them easily win at the game. Asking can be regarded as cheat codes in this grand game called life.
Imagine this! You start out at the game of life at level 0, and over the years, you go up a level. Then there are those who are already several levels ahead of you, some of level 20, 30, 40, 50, and some are even grandmasters (game phrase referring to highly skilled players) who are above Level 50. All of them have probably experienced something you're going through and had to find ways to navigate it, so why would you want to relive through the same experience first hand? CHEAT!! ASK!!
However, not all advice is constructive. Some won't apply to your specific context. Discerning the applicability of these "cheat codes" is crucial. At the same time, it's careful to note how accepting advice amidst emotional turmoil is another stumbling block in terms of accepting advice we are being given. In such cases, it's about looking past our feelings and accepting what were being advised on, but if we can't do that at the moment, then it's all up to time ,until we feel we are ready to take the advice. This also applies when giving advice where sometimes people won't be willing to listen to what you have to say because they are clouded by their emotions, so it's best to give the advice when they are ready to take the advice and not force it on them.
Through it all, to ask is simple as it sounds, though like with most simple actions, implementation becomes a problem. But what I can say is that the more you do it, the more you reap the benefits, the more you can get through life's challenges with your cheat codes. The main idea of this sober thought is how asking can help take us further than we think. We just have to first have the initiative.
